Past Activities

Since its establishment, APNAC has carried out many activities. These have empowered parliamentarians to undertake concrete action to stop corruption and build links with one another and with local and international organizations. APNAC has published three issues of its newsletter, through which members have been able to exchange experiences and best practices.

APNAC has also organized national and international workshops, which have served as opportunities to raise APNAC’s profile.

In November 1999, APNAC organized a one-day workshop at the 9th Annual Anti-corruption Conference in Durban, South Africa. Discussions in this workshop focused on the role of parliament in ensuring accountability and transparency.

APNAC , together with GOPAC, participated in the 10th IAAC in Prague, Czech Republic.

In 2000, APNAC members participated in the Fourth African Governance Forum (AGF IV) in Kampala, Uganda, and APNAC was accorded observer status.

APNAC participated in the Al Gore anti-corruption initiative in Amsterdam in 2001

In 2001, the APNAC Chair represented the Network at the Second World Movement for Democracy at Sao Paulo, Brazil. In 2002 , he participated in a workshop in Nairobi on the constitutional review process in Kenya and in December 2003, he represented APNAC at the signing of the United Nations Anti-Corruption Convention in Merida, Mexico.

In November 2003, APNAC organized an All-Africa Regional Conference in Nairobi, Kenya, to revitalize the Network, at which 14 African countries were represented. The APNAC Executive Council was elected at this conference to represent East, West, Central and Southern Africa.

In March 2004, the first regional workshop for West Africa was held in Abuja, Nigeria. The theme was 'New Parliamentary Challenges in the Fight against Corruption' .

In December 2004, the third regional workshop for Central Africa was held in N'Djamena, Chad. The focus was corruption in public procurement and transparency in extractive industries.

In June 2005, a regional anti-corruption course was held at the Eastern and Southern African Management Institute (ESAMI) in Arusha, Tanzania for APNAC members and civil society representatives from five countries. One of the key areas of focus was on the role of parliamentarians in promoting corporate social responsibility (CSR).

Videoconferences are held periodically in order to update members on developments taking place in different chapters.

In September 4th to 8th 2006, a regional training workshop for West African Chapters was held in Freetown, Sierra Leone. The workshop aimed at strengthening the managment, oversight and monitoring skills of parliamentarians in western Africa as well as seeking to consolidate the APNAC network in the region.

In September 25-28, 2006, APNAC participated the Second Africa Asia Policy Dialogue conference which offered parliamentarians from the two regions the opportunity to share some of their experiences through presentations from policy makers, parliamentarians and academics; panel discussions as well as case studies from both Africa and Asia. Throughout the dialogue the three issues of corruption; poverty and economic growth were discussed, with very useful lessons emerging as case studies.

In September 19th to 23rd, 2006 APNAC partnered with GOPAC and the Parliament of Tanzania to host the 2 GOPAC Global Conference in Arusha, Tanzania.Conference aimed at creating patnerships in the fight aganist graft and new strategies to handle graft and money laundering.

In November 15 to 18 2006, APNAC participated in the the 12 th International Anti-Corruption Conference (IACC) took place in Guatemala City and Antigua.The conference formulated crucial resolutions regarding war on money laundering and graft.
